Things I Love Thursday

4th! (via sleepy_sparrow)

Summer is nearly over. I can hardly believe it. I did nothing, as planned.

  • No more back pain! I’ve been waking up everyday this week in more pain than the day before. After some trips to the chiropractor and radiologist this week for x-rays, I have been told that I have somehow or other reversed my cervical curve. In other words, where the bones in my neck should be curved outwards facing forward, they are instead nearly straight. Needless to say, waking up and reversing down the driveway is no longer unbearable.
  • Puppy kisses! I will miss them when Melissa and Bosely (said puppy) move out in less than a week (sad face).

Neko Case (coming to Tallahassee in November!!) // Forgetting how much I love these (currently AnotherLateNight: Zero 7 ) // Pancakes (especially those made by your roommate with chocolate chip smiley faces and semi-frozen banana slices) // Mr. Tambourine Man // True Blood // Pumpkin season being around the corner // White wine // Dreaming of future loft decor with Melissa // Eagles of Death Metal // Josh Homme (and anything he touches minus Brody Dalle) // Seu Jorge // Wes Anderson // Daydreaming of sountracks to your life // You!

Things I Love Thursday

(via Van_Occupanther)

If you don’t count the midnight screening of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, I haven’t been to the movie theater in a long time. So tonight, two friends from work, Melissa and myself, are going to the AMC to see (500) Days of Summer (which is majorly exiciting because I have been hyping this movie up in my head for what seems like ages now, and Tallahassee is just getting it in theaters…we’re a bit behind).

  • My shower is fixed! For an entire year, the hot water knob in my shower has continually loosened itself (meaning at least once every week, I have to pop a screwdriver into the shower to make sure I can turn the water off…as in my mini screwdriver set has made a permanent residence out of my medicine cabinet, and the one I use is starting to rust…). Anyway! The shower pressure was starting to go downhill (the faucet and shower head were running simultaneously…plus nearby road construction around our pipes has really been screwing up the pressure), so I called my landlord and he fixed the knob! So excited to take a normal shower!
  • Actually being able to finish a book. I’ve had a really hard time picking up a book and finishing it lately (Does a David Sedaris book even count though?). I just breezed through Sedaris’ Me Talk Pretty One Day and I just started Ken Follet’s Pillars of the Earth and can already envision what’s happening on every page so perfectly, there’s a pretty big chance I’ll be getting no sleep tonight (plus, my copy smells like it’s been smothered in sunscreen and been living at the beach (I’m surprised no sand has fallen out of the pages), which makes me super nostalgic for home).
  • Numerology/Astrology. Been reading a lot more in depth about certain aspects of it all lately (I’m a 3), and I just find it completely fascinating (read more).
  • LouLou Loves You! Give me it all. I hardly allow myself to act like a frilly girl, but I seriously want to deck myself in all that glorious lingerie.
  • World Beard Championships. For serious. (via)

Others: Cooking glorious meals for the roommates, True Blood, Patsy Cline, and you!

Judy Garland mosaic II (via Yas D. Nil)

Things I am completely, totally, truly, passionately loving (this) Thursday the 23rd of July:
Judy Garland (I’m currently plowing through her biography, Get Happy, which I knew would make me simultaneously happy and completely sad in reading before I even started it). I don’t think I will ever listen to Zing! Went The Strings of My Heart in the same way ever again. I’m already filling up my library queue with Garland films that I haven’t seen in a few years, so that I’ll be completely inundated by her voice.
Joanna Newsom. Her folky harp playing and magical story telling are currently winning my tiny musical heart.
Phone calls about everything & nothing ; Daydreaming (about salty laps swam in the Atlantic) ; Harry Potter ; Magic for all intents and purposes ; Reading outdoors in the sun ; Trains ; Grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch ; Collecting ; Painting ; Coffee ; Cold pillows on hot nights…and the (beat) list goes on & on & on….

Things I Love Thursday (The Happy Birthday to ME edition)

  • Bowie! All I’ve been listening to lately is David Bowie. Spefically the Aladdin Sane era. I still believe that Bowie & Iman are one of the most beautiful couples to ever walk the planet. The only other celebrity (musician vs. model x 2) couple that makes me swoon is Heidi Klum & Seal.
  • 22. Maybe I should’ve made the fact that it’s my twelfth twenty-second birthday today overrule Bowie as the first bullet. Whatever, I do what I want! No, but seriously, how is 2009 half over already? And how is it my birthday!? I don’t know how it snuck up on me so fast, but I’ve already gotten a slew of text messages from the nearest and dearest, as well as a long anticipated call from Sasha (who’s been gone for a month and a half in Peru and in the Bahamas). Anyway! At midnight:00, Emerald started knocking on my door with no intention of stopping until I opened up, in order to present me with this (she is much too good for me), which we broke in last night by watching the first two episodes, before calling it a night.
  • Harry Potter. Oh yes. I want to see it again! Already!

Honorable Mentions: The color red // Textures // Private Dance Parties // Glam Rock // Snail Mail // SARK! // Pee-Wee Herman //  The completely non-sensical finger food party plate // Yellow flowers // Smoothies // Handmade jewelry // Dresses // Mood swings (Homer’s, not my own) // Larry David // Candles everywhere // Seashells // Listening, not speaking (for once!) // You! //

Things I Love Thursday

Adam and Halli’s Wedding (via joshgoleman)

Did you know that it was 101 degrees outside in North Florida today? Fortunately, I spent most of the day indoors (even though I was sweating profusely anyway). Today’s ridiculous humidity has me seriously considering going to Toys’R’Us tomorrow for a kiddie pool to soak my feet in…and face in…

Anyway! Here are some things I’m liking this week:

  • Double shifts that result with two inevitably sore feet, but great mood nonetheless, greatly enhanced by big tipper$.
  • Red, red wine (mmm delicious nightcap).
  • Mega grocery shopping outings resulting in cooking glorious meals for oneself.
  • Adam and Halli’s circus themed wedding (see above photos).
  • Jenny Lewis’ Acid Tongue.
  • Clever cakes.
  • Tilt-shift photography.
  • What if the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park spoke? What if all they said/shouted was HEY!!! (most ridiculous video ever = most awesome video ever).
  • Sleeping!

Things I Love Thursday (Yeah, I understand it’s technically Friday now edition)

race in color via (Mattias_Adolfsson)

  • I’m falling in love/continual trances with these YouTube ambient music videos of sounds/imagery from specific children’s movies. Examples include: [The Sword In The Stone] White Magic, [Mary Poppins] Expialidocious, [Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone] Alohamora.
  • Painting outdoors! Total mess, but completely liberating from thinking too much about nothing in particular. It’s nice to be carefree and not realize that you have bright orange paint all over your face, and grass strains and blue streaks all over your legs. At least for a few hours anyway.
  • Coffee! Lately, the caffiene and warmth is my life force.
  • Late night with Jimmy Fallon tonight. Betty White playing beer pong. Can I be her when I’m older? Sassy, brassy and amazing? Martha Wainwright covering Edith Piaf and blowing me away! [In her own words: “Me and some New York cats, are gearing up for a live record of Edith Piaf songs. I’m not talking ‘La Vie En Rose’ and ‘Milord’, although they’re great, me and the boys are taking on some of the lesser known songs which are masterpieces in their own right. Piaf has always been in my life thanks to my mom and Rufus. I think it was Rufus who played me mom’s records of Piaf’s when we were kids. I must have been 8 or so and ever since then she has lived in a little apartment in my heart. A french apartment of course.” (via)]
  • foodgawker.com. Holy shit. Love/hate relationship with HD photography of gorgeous morsels I want to have in my mouth.
  • Palm Beach County. I do miss it a lot these days. So much glorious food!  And wonderful people! Awesome loving family! And the beach! Golf course stargazing! Kitties!

Things I Love Thursday (The Friday edition)

Fuck! Why can’t I remember that Thursday exists when it’s actually Thursday? Whatever! Late again!

(Gothic Monstrosity via David Fullarton)

  • Mastodon’s Crack The Skye. Seriously! Seriously. So fucking good. I’m picky about what Metal bands I like, but these guys have been on the list for awhile, and their latest concept album (Rasputin?) solidifies their rank in the list of evergrowing awesome. Jade and I went to Atlanta for two days to see them play two weeks ago (they are from Atlanta, and it was the last night of their tour so DOUBLEAWESOME), but unfortunately, I hadn’t really listened to their album before hand, and was tired and blah blah blah excuses excuses excuses…anyway! I can’t stop listening to it now.
  • Haircuts. Feels like I have hardly any hair on my head. Love it.
  • Working out. I miss the gym! I really do. I’m not one of those work-out-aholics who counts carbs and checks her weight all the effing time, but oh the rush of energy to my brain is so nice. As soon as I get back from Delray this weekend, I’m buying a membership with the FSU Gym. I’ve been walking around the neighborhood, developing heel blisters, complete with iPod (blasting Mastodon and Pixies) for the time being.
  • The Beatles vs. The Kinks vs. LCD Soundsystem - The Brits Are Playing At My House
  • Eartha Kitt - I Want To Be Evil
  • Greg Pattillo’s Beatboxing Flute rendition of Peter & The Wolf.
  • These beautiful shots of Marilyn Monroe.
